How Whatsapp Makes Money Without Ads? Why New Status Feature is Introduced? SHOCKING HIDDEN FACT

Hi! Welcome. Whatsapp introduced a new status feature called stories in their app. So what exactly is this feature? And why Whatsapp introduced this feature? Let's find out!

Why Whatsapp introduced the Status feature?

Whatsapp tested this feature in Nov 2016 and now the feature is being rolled out worldwide to iOS Android and Windows phones. With the new update Whatsapp has killed the old style text status, with the facility with which users can send across photos and GIFs to contacts in a news feed. The app itself has been redesigned and there isn't a contacts tab anymore. Instead, there's a stories tab, where you can see others' status as a news feed. Once you swipe up on any photo, the reply option comes and you can reply to the person who has put up the status in person.

There's a camera icon, with which you can put your own status by either clicking are selecting one from the gallery. You can add text to the status photo that you choose or draw something or put an emoji. The privacy of the status can be controlled and it'll go to only those people whom you wish. If you haven't updated Whatsapp yet and are yet to use this feature, can go to the Play Store and update the Whatsapp app or download the apk to install it manually and enjoy this feature.

So here are the reasons why whatsapp came up with this feature.

No.1:
To hinder snapchat's growth and acquire its user base. Even though Facebook Messenger and Whatsapp control the mobile messaging platform with a market share of 42% together, Snapchat controls the still media communication platform with a solid market share of 11%! Facebook, which owns Whatsapp and Instagram, tried to snatch the market from Snapchat By introducing a clone of snapchat feature called "stories" in Instagram. Even though Snapchat took a hit in Q3 of 2016, since Instagram's user base is not as big as Snapchat's, Snapchat survived and still kept growing! But the introduction of such a feature in Whatsapp means that people who are not used snapchat will use it in Whatsapp and people who use it currently in Snapchat will slowly migrate to Whatsapp!
This gives facebook a market share of over 50% in mobile messaging platform!

No.2:
Introduction of advertisements in story feed. Whatsapp has stayed away from advertisements till date, but experts feel that Facebook can earn over $65 million, by introducing ads in between the story-feed! There's no official confirmation on this, but experts say that Facebook can earn as much as $ 65 Million by showing at a frequency as low as one ad per person in 10 days!

How Whatsapp makes money without Ads in the App?

No.3:
Selling more data with image processing?! You might wonder how Whatsapp earns revenue if they don't show ads. Whatsapp does deep data mining by which it searches for keywords in your chat and sells the data to an online selling platform so that they can show personalized ads to you! For example, if you text a friend that "I need Nike shoes",  Whatsapp smart enough to identify the keyword "Nike" and then sell the that you are interested in Nike shoes to a seller.
Now this is no way illegal, because you have agreed to Whatsapp terms and conditions which clearly says that. Now you know why you should read the terms and conditions before agreeing to it to it. With more people uploading photos to Whatsapp, Whatsapp can do advanced analytics on those images, and then get more data about their interests to sell it and earn revenue!

No.4:
More clicks and time spent on the app. The newly-introduced Whatsapp status feature expires on every 24 hours, which means that people are forced to upload a new picture every 24 hours and thereby giving more clicks and traffic to the app. I personally like the new feature introduced by Whatsapp a lot, but a lot of people seem to be not! Tell me what do you think about Whatsapp's new feature in the comments below and subscribe to my Blog to keep me motivated in doing more stuff like this.
